His life story
Son of Muaheb and Faisal. Born on December 28, 1988 in the village of Yarka, brother to Rasha, Alaa and Walaa.
He grew up and was educated in Yirka, attending the village elementary school and later the "Achva" high school, where he specialized in the field of electricity. From his childhood, he stood out for his sociable and caring nature. As a member of the "Scoofs" movement, he was active, proactive, and loved to help others. He often volunteered in the community, participated in many social projects, and donated his energy and time to the welfare of needy families - always the first to reach out and help.
Upon completing his high school studies, he fulfilled his dream and enlisted in the IDF, with a deep desire in his heart to defend his homeland and contribute to the country. He was assigned to the Artillery Corps, successfully completed training, and served as an outstanding soldier. His commanders appreciated his professionalism, dedication, and responsibility, and he fulfilled every mission with faith and punctuality. Upon his discharge, he received a certificate of appreciation for exemplary service, in which he was noted as an exemplary, disciplined, and dedicated soldier.
After his release, he began working for the Electric Company as a locksmith and welder. He excelled there too, completing a safety officer course, and quickly advanced to the position of team leader in the railway department. He carried out challenging tasks in difficult terrain conditions, always with the professionalism and calmness that characterized him.
Hussam married Renin, and the couple established their home in Yirka, where they lovingly raised their daughter Nissan and son Neil.
In parallel with his work, Hussam wanted to continue contributing to society. On May 16, 2016, he joined the Israel Police as a volunteer, in the Coast District. For five years, he served with dedication and loyalty, volunteering for complex missions and earning great respect from his commanders and friends.
Special First Sergeant Hussam Zagir was killed during an operational activity in Nahariya on September 21, 2021. He was thirty-two years old when he was killed.
He was laid to rest in the new military cemetery in Yirka. He left behind a wife, a son and daughter, parents, a brother and two sisters.
His commanders paid tribute to him:
"Hussam was one of the most outstanding police officers at the station. Loved by everyone – officers, police officers and volunteers alike. Always ready to help, always volunteering for the most difficult tasks, always available and willing to contribute. His absence will be deeply felt in the hearts of his friends and family. May his memory be forever blessed."
Hussam Zagir is commemorated at the 'Gilead' site for police martyrs and at a memorial in their memory at the Police College in Beit Shemesh.
