His life story
The son of Johra and Naif, Ahmed was born in the Druze village of Julis on July 1, 1930.
He began his studies at the village elementary school and then continued at the secondary school in Bisif.
On April 25, 1956, when he was 26 years old and the father of three children, he volunteered for permanent service in the Border Guard. Despite his age, he completed the combat training course and then the squad commander course, after which he was assigned as a squad commander in Border Guard units in the Sharon area.
His friends say that he was a kind and pleasant man, attentive and always ready to help. Ahmed loved his job, performed it with great dedication and was a personal example to his subordinates and all the police officers in the unit - with his neat appearance and professionalism.
On the afternoon of September 30, 1962, Ahmed commanded a patrol team along the Jordanian border, near Baqa al-Gharbiya. During the patrol, he was hit in the leg by gunfire fired at them from Jordanian territory by the Jordanian Legion. Despite his injury, he managed to report the incident to the unit, and a rescue force was sent to evacuate him and his fighters. While moving from the rescue site, additional fire was opened on them from Jordanian territory – in which Ahmed was hit a second time and killed.
Sergeant Shani Ahmed was 32 years old when he fell. He was laid to rest in the family grave plot in the village of Julis.
He left behind a wife and six children.
