Hamed Khatib(Staff Sergeant)

His life story
The only son of Gaber and Samia. Born in the village of Beit Jan on February 10, 1957. He attended elementary school in his village and continued on to high school in the village of Rama, where he finished 12th grade. Hamed stood out in society and was an excellent student.
In November 1974, Hamed enlisted for compulsory service and was assigned to the Border Guard. After basic training, he served as a soldier in the Judea and Samaria area. Upon completion of compulsory service in November 1977, he volunteered to continue regular service and served as a soldier in the Judea and Samaria area. In November 1978, he was transferred to the Northern Border Guard Unit, in Company 21, which was transferred to Lebanon during the Galilee Peace War.
During his service, Hamed was known for his dedication, loyalty, and professionalism, and earned the respect of his commanders and the soldiers under him.
Hamed was the only son of his parents, who invested a lot in him. Although he loved to study, his marriage at the age of eighteen forced him to devote his energy to starting a family. By the age of twenty-six, he was the father of six children, whom he cared for and raised with devotion: Thayer, Shirin, Majda, Jaber, Bulal, and Itad, who was a month and a half old on the day his father fell.
Hamed was loved by his friends and known for his modesty, compromise, and desire to solve problems through understanding and compromise. He loved reading, wrote poems and articles, and documented events from his life. His hobbies included joy of life, singing, and dancing, and he always maintained a pleasant atmosphere around him.
Sergeant Shani Hemed fell in the Second Tyre Disaster, during the Galilee Peace War. On Friday, November 4, 1983, at 6:00 AM, a bomb-laden van entered a facility where Border Guard soldiers were stationed in the city of Tyre and detonated 500 kilograms of explosives, causing the buildings to collapse and the deaths of about sixty people, including twenty-eight members of the security establishment – including Hemed.
Hamed was 26 years old when he was killed. He was buried in the family grave plot in the village of Beit Jan.
The eulogy delivered by his commanders stated: "A long time will pass before we get used to the difficult fact that Hamed's place is gone from us. His many skills, his quietness, his dedication and his willingness to carry out every order - made him a symbol and a role model in the Border Guard."
