Wafa Assad Born on June 17, 1966 in the village of Usafia, a member of the Druze community and a family of ten children. He was a lively child, endowed with curiosity, joy of life and love of people. He attended elementary school in Usafia, and successfully completed his high school studies in the electrical engineering major at the "ORT" school with a matriculation certificate.

From a young age, he demonstrated physical strength and deep faith – every year, from the age of twelve, he would walk from Usafia to the tomb of the Prophet Shuaib in the hills of Hittin. Wafa was active in the youth movement and in the Gdansk Youth Union, played soccer on the village youth team and devoted his time to mentoring young people. He loved Arabic literature and poetry, was involved in photography and left behind a spectacular collection of photographs. His warm and friendly nature, sense of humor and willingness to help everyone – made him a beloved and central figure in his environment.

In July 1984, he enlisted in the IDF and volunteered for the infantry, in the paratrooper unit. After completing combat training and the APC course, he took the infantry company commander course and was assigned as a combat fitness instructor. He was endowed with discipline, quick perception, and an excellent ability to work with people. In August 1987, he completed his regular service, but a year later he returned to permanent service, first as a disciplinary battalion commander and later as an interrogator in a correctional facility.

After his discharge from the regular army, he studied electrical engineering at the Haifa School of Engineering, and later studied building electrician. In 1991, he married Hanadi, and with the help of his parents, he began building their house in Isfaia. Shortly thereafter, he lost his father in a car accident, but found solace in the birth of his first daughter, Einav. Upon completing his studies, he began working at the Haifa Electric Company, where he only managed to work for three months. He was particularly excited when he learned of his wife's second pregnancy, which was to give birth to another daughter.

On August 29, 1993, he was called up for reserve duty and went on operational patrols in the Gaza Strip with his unit. On September 12, 1993, while commanding a patrol jeep, the force encountered terrorists. Wafa showed resourcefulness and courage – he managed to return fire and charge – but was hit by gunfire at close range and killed along with two other Druze fighters, Sergeant Mwafaq Abu Shah and Sergeant Ibrahim Shabel. He was 27 years old when he fell.

He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Usafia. He left behind a wife, a daughter – Einab, a mother, five brothers: Fuad, Amal, Shibel, Amer and Sarur, and four sisters: Sarah, Badur, Bilqis and Sinai. About a month after his fall, his second daughter was born, who was named after him – Wafa. After his death, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant.

At his funeral, which was attended by thousands of participants, Northern Command Major General Yitzhak Mordechai noted the contribution of the Asaad family to the ranks of the paratroopers. The battalion commander eulogized him with the words:
"Wafa was an outstanding commander, a brave warrior who volunteered for every mission. With his courage, he prevented a major disaster."
