His life story

Son of Kookev and Saleh. Born in the Druze village of Beit Jan on July 1, 1951, into a family of nine children.

He attended elementary school in his village, and then studied for two years in high school with a theoretical focus, but dropped out to work and help support his family.

In January 1969, Galeb was drafted into compulsory service and assigned to the Minorities Unit, where he served as a fighter and performed his duties with dedication and loyalty. Due to his excellence, he was asked and agreed to continue in permanent service.

On July 2, 1975, Galeb volunteered for permanent service in the Border Guard, completed the combat training course for permanent personnel, and was assigned to operational units in the north of the country. In 1977, he was transferred to Company 21, and during his service, he was sent to a driving course, which he successfully completed, and began serving as a combat driver. His friends described him as a pleasant person, dedicated to every mission, who paid attention to every detail.

In 1976, Ghalib married Fawzia, and together they had three children – Maha, Soha and Manduma. He took care of his family with dedication and spared no effort to ensure their needs.

During the Galilee Peace War, Galeb was stationed with his unit in Lebanon as a combat driver.

First Sergeant Galeb fell in the second Tyre disaster. On Friday, November 4, 1983, at 6:00 AM, a bomb-laden van entered a facility housing Border Guard soldiers in the city of Tyre and detonated 500 kg of explosives, causing the collapse of two buildings. About sixty people were killed on the spot, including twenty-eight members of the security establishment, including Galeb.

Ghalib was 32 years old when he fell. He was buried in the family plot in Beit Jan, leaving behind a wife and three children.

The eulogies delivered by his commanders stated: "Galeb was one of the most prominent of the casualties. The tragedy in Tyre is that we must say goodbye to him forever. He was greatly loved by his unit mates, and every mission he carried out was done with enthusiasm and to the satisfaction of his commanders."
