Samir Assad(Sergeant)
His life story
Son of Afifa and Muhammad. Born on February 1, 1961, the fifth of nine brothers and sisters. He began his studies at the elementary school in Beit Jan and completed his studies at the agricultural high school in the village of Rama.
In November 1979, Samir enlisted in the IDF and served in the General Corps and the Infantry Brigade. After basic training, he was assigned to Unit 300 and served as an interpreter in the Military Prosecutor's Office in the Gaza Strip. Upon completion of his mandatory service in November 1982, he requested to continue his permanent service. His request was accepted and he served in the Government House in Sidon as an interpreter in the Civilian Assistance Unit. His commander wrote about him: "He is a disciplined soldier, capable of performing diverse duties according to his skills."
In March 1983, while on vacation, Samir disappeared, and in May 1984 he was declared missing.
Eight years later, on September 12, 1991, his body was returned from Lebanon, and the next day he was laid to rest in the family cemetery in his village, Beit Jan. Samir left behind his parents and eight brothers and sisters.
His family members perpetuated his memory in their village.
