Son of Hadiya and Naaman. Born in the village of Yanouh on January 1, 1975, the second of nine children of a respectable Druze family. He completed his elementary education at the school in his village, and his high school education at the "Mercaz HaGalil" comprehensive school, where he excelled in his studies and graduated with a full matriculation certificate. In addition to his studies, Maher was very active in sports and served as an assistant coach for the "Hapoel Yanouh" team. He also devoted his time to public and volunteer work for the community.

Upon completing his studies, Maher was accepted into the academic reserve at the University of Haifa, where he successfully completed a preparatory year. Despite his desire to continue his studies, he was forced to discontinue them due to his family's financial situation and enlist in the IDF.

In October 1993, Maher enlisted for compulsory service, and after completing his basic training, he was assigned as a chemist at Havat Hashomer in Ilaniya. He quickly integrated into the military system, demonstrated responsibility, dedication, and high management skills, and was promoted to a disciplinary position. Upon completion of his compulsory service, in October 1997, Maher requested to continue in permanent service. His commander, Mishka Levi, highly recommended him and wrote about him:
"He is an excellent soldier, healthy, with a broad education and a strong desire to contribute. He deserves promotion and even an officer course, especially in light of his abilities and commitment to service."

In May 1998, Maher joined the permanent service and served as a maintenance officer in the 13th Military Police Battalion. At the same time, he continued his evening studies at the College for Service Technicians in Haifa in the field of television and video engineering, where he was considered a valued and beloved student.

On September 1, 1998, on his way back to base after a vacation, Maher hitchhiked from the village toward Nahariya. Near the Oshrat intersection, a fatal car accident occurred, in which he and the driver of the vehicle were killed. Maher was twenty-three years old when he fell. He was laid to rest in the family cemetery in Yannoch, leaving behind his parents and eight brothers and sisters – Bhagat, Saher, Nael, Bahaja, Akmal, Rana, Afifa and Azat.

Major Eyal, his direct commander, wrote about him:
"Maher was an exemplary soldier – responsible, disciplined and with excellent interpersonal skills. He performed his duties with great professionalism and love, demonstrated high motivation and was imbued with a desire to advance and contribute as much as he could."
