His life story

Muhammad Nafa'a was born on May 12, 1952, in the Druze village of Beit Jan. He completed his elementary education in his native village, and his secondary education at the high school in the village of Rama, where he excelled in his studies.

In May 1970, he enlisted in the IDF and was assigned to the Border Guard. From the beginning of his career, he stood out for his natural leadership skills, and after successfully completing the warrior course, he was sent to the squad commander course and the company commander course, in which he excelled. He later served as a recruit instructor at the Border Guard training base, and advanced to the position of company sergeant major.

During his service, he married Nazima, and in 1972 their first son, Rami, was born. Over the years, Mohammed and his wife had five more children – Sami, Samia, Rania, Saleh, and Noel.

After completing his compulsory service, in May 1973, he volunteered for permanent service and served in various operational units. In 1977, he was assigned to Company 21, and with the outbreak of the Galilee Peace War, his unit was transferred to operational activity in Lebanon. His commanders valued him as a dedicated, quiet and modest commander, who leads his subordinates and serves as a personal example to them.

Alongside his military service, Muhammad was interested in weapons and shooting. He was known as an outstanding marksman and was a member of the Border Guard shooting team, with which he participated in many competitions and won first places. Another hobby he loved was hunting, in which his talent and great accuracy were evident.

On November 4, 1983, during the Galilee Peace War, a car bomb penetrated a Border Police facility in the city of Tyre and exploded, containing about half a ton of explosives. In the attack, known as the "Second Tyre Disaster," about sixty people were killed - including twenty-eight members of the security establishment. Sergeant Major Muhammad Nafa' was among them.

Muhammad was 31 years old when he died. He was buried in the family plot in the Beit Jan cemetery, leaving behind a wife and six children.

In his eulogy, his commanders said: "A long time will pass before we can get used to the fact that Muhammad Nafa'a's place is gone from us. His name preceded him as the number one scorer of the Northern Border Guard. He represented the Border Guard with honor and won many championships."

Muhammad is commemorated in the Yad Labanim House, in the Druze Martyrs' Memorial in Usfiya, and in the Beit Jan Martyrs' Memorial.
